Thank you for your interest in Battle of the Books!
The purpose of Battle of the Books is to encourage middle school students to read by exposing them to quality young adult literature. Your responsibility as a team member is to read the books from the Battle of the Books List 2018-2019 and to memorize all of the author and title names. Click here access the a site to help you learn how to pronounce the author's names.
Explanation: Students will read books from the Battle of the Books list, focusing on questioning, comprehension, and literary elements. For each book read, students will create questions, complete extension activities, and participate in group discussions. Students will prepare for competition by learning the process for competition through mock competitions, in class activities, and mastering the titles and authors for each book.
Goals: Students will gain knowledge and demonstrate their knowledge of the books to compete in mock and actual competitions. Students will work as a team to support and cooperate with one another in the competition setting.
Objectives: Students will gain knowledge of the books as evidenced by completion of activities, completion of questions, and written and oral responses.
Schedule
We will meet every other Friday at 8:00 AM in the media center. Please turn in your application prior to our first meeting.
